Special Olympians Benefit from Run Sponsored by Gambling Game
Special Olympians Benefit from Run Sponsored by Gambling Game

Arlen Ness Motorcycles and deputies in the Alameda County Sheriff's Department are co-sponsoring the inaugural Special Olympics Poker Run to benefit Special Olympians. It seems this gambling game is finding its way into other facets of life. Although it is one of the fastest growing pastimes in the world, poker gambling, according to this example, can be used for worthy causes as well.

‘Special Olympics is such a great cause. You're helping kids and families who need extra help to participate in games. Anybody and everybody (can participate). If they don't want to ride a bike, they can still come down and buy raffle tickets, have lunch for a nominal fee or just make a donation,’ said Sherri Foxworthy, Arlen Ness spokeswoman, and Ness’ daughter. The co-sponsors are asking local motorcyclists to take part in the run, which is a nearly 100-mile motorcycle ride that starts and ends in Dublin. It will start at 8:30 AM Saturday at Arlen Ness, 6050 Dublin Blvd. For fifteen years, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office has supported the Special Olympics. The gambling aspect of this run has to do with the competition which takes place after the run, with the ‘best poker hand’ winners receiving prizes. Now, poker gambling and a great bike run can work hand-in-hand to help give back to the community.

According to the organizers, it costs US 250 dollars to pay for one athlete's sport each year, and US 500 dollars to fund a year of activities for the athlete. It is clear how poker gambling will help this cause. And it is comforting to know that poker and gambling in general can be used for a greater good and not only be thought of as an entertaining pastime for poker fans.
